Ordering a Custom Built Fly Rod

Looking for something unique? Can’t quite find the rod you want in your local fly shop? Searching for a quality rod at a budget below big name brand prices? A custom rod is a great way to get a one of kind rod built for how you like to fish.

If you're not sure where to start, we will begin with discussing what areas you typically fish and the types of fish targeted to get a better sense of the line weight and length that would best suit your needs.

In addition, we like to get a sense of your ability as an angler to better pair you with a rod that both fits your budget and enjoyment. If you fish 5 days a week, once a month, or once a year we can get a sense of what rod you are going to love right off the bench, as well as 5-10 years down the road!  

We build a variety of fly rod styles and brands from those for euronymphing to spey to solid all around trout rods. You can check out examples of our rods in our pre-built rod tab. Here is a summary of the primary rod blanks that we build with. 

           CTS Premium - Some of the best blanks to build a fly rod with. They have great           

           control, tip recovery, tippet protection & power when needed.  Available in graphite & 

           glass blank material.  Moderate to X-Fast actions in a variety of beautiful finishes.

           NorthFork Composite Builds - US Made Blanks from Woodland, WA. These blanks             

           make a lightweight fly rod with great control that are fun to cast and fish.  (Available   

           in 9 ft-11 ft lengths in most trout line weights.)

One of the real advantages of your custom rod is to be able to guide the overall look and components to fit your fishing style and personality on the water.  This can include helping select everything from reel seat style, colors, and guide styles. And if you choose, you can have your name on your rod so your fishing buddies to "accidentally" take your rod home after a good day on the water. Overall you are going to get a better rod for what the commercial marketplace has to offer at whatever budget value you have. We use a variety of rod blanks and components and can help match your budget to a great rod. 

After we have discussed some of the key features of the fly rod we will put together an initial build outline and price quote. The quote is valid for 30 days (unless otherwise noted). A 50% deposit is required to start the build and a final payment at the time of shipping or pickup (for local customers).  

Depending on the final build outline, some specific components of the rods take 4-12 weeks to get into stock. We do our best to keep a variety of items in stock to help minimize this delay. We will keep you informed as to the progress and timeframe as it unveils. Once we have all the raw materials, we will keep you informed as to the progress of the fly rod and any questions you may have for us.  Generally, once we finalize a build outline and price, it will be anywhere between 7-30 day turnaround.
